The Homemade Kefir

kefir

DIY kefir to boost your gut health and immunity!

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups of whole milk (or any non-dairy alternative, such as coconut milk).
  • 1 tablespoon of kefir grains (available at health stores or online).

Equipments:
  • A clean glass jar (16 oz or larger).
  • A plastic or wooden spoon (avoid metal, as it may react with the kefir grains).
  • A breathable cover (e.g., a coffee filter or cheesecloth secured with a rubber band).

Preperation:
  • Pour the milk into the clean glass jar.
  • Add the kefir grains to the milk.
  • Cover the jar with the breathable cover to keep out dust but allow airflow.

Fermentation:
  • Leave the jar at room temperature (65-85°F) for 12-24 hours.
  • Stir gently once or twice during the fermentation process.

Strain & Serve:
  • Once the milk thickens and takes on a tangy smell, it's ready.
  • Strain the kefir into a separate jar using a plastic or nylon strainer to remove the grains.
  • Store the finished kefir in the refrigerator and reuse the grains for your next batch.
